The Heroic Melon Collective began humbly April 2009 as an idea to bring together the skills of emerging video artists to create and promote our own individual works under a single creative hub.
Heroic Melon History
Initially crewing together on smaller projects, Heroic Melon‘s original 5 members came from various backgrounds and found a common creative ambition to tell stories using visual media as their creative outlet. Using their existing inventory of original works, the original 5 set out to make a dent in the online scene drawing new audiences into the worlds of such works as The Awkward Compilation, the INTER series, as well hits like the Central Squares Saga, and the unpredictable Random Antics.
Over its continuing lifespan, Heroic Melon‘s work began to grow. Interviewing Youtube sensations like ClaraC, David Choi and entertainment veteran’s like PJ “Fresh” Phil Guerrero and Ed the Sock, as well as a collaboration with student clubs like the Filipino Student Association at York for SuperSkillz 2010, only further cemented Heroic Melon as a force in the online scene.
In addition to producing their online series the Awkward Compilation – now approaching its third season, Heroic Melon has gone on to win awards at the Toronto Youth Shorts Film Festival for their shorts Expert.Ordinary (viewer’s choice award) and S2 (visual thesis award).
Mission Statement
“We were extremely lucky to find each other – challenging ourselves and each other to put out higher calibre work with each new project.
It is our hope to create content that everyone can get something out of – whether its a good laugh, action, a scare, a sense of adventure, an interesting look at culture, or even to simply generate thought. Regardless of what you get out of us, it is for YOU that we can continue to do our best.”
Create diversity. Inspire unity. It’s just the Heroic Melon way.
